Chocolate Fair & Factory Visit

The Friday before we left France for Winter Break, Adam and I went on a *free* CEA excursion to the Marseille Chocolate Fair. Our program director, Vivienne, had taken advantage of a newspaper contest to secure all the students a stylish ride to the fair. We met up with a group of vintage car enthusiasts at the Old Harbor in Marseille. Adam and I got to ride in a 1960s Jaguar along the Mediterranean coast!

As soon as we stepped into the exhibition hall where the fair was held, we could smell the chocolate wafting through the air. When I found out that all the booths were giving out free samples, I told Adam that this was literally a dream come true. We walked around sampling all the chocolates for about an hour. There were some interesting combinations - chocolate with lavender, chocolate with thyme - yet nobody thought of putting chocolate and peanut butter together! Those silly Europeans.

There was even a little show featuring "chocolate dancers" who pulled unsuspecting Frenchmen up on the stage to bust a move. Seriously hilarious.

The Wednesday after Winter Break, I went on another *free* CEA excursion to a local chocolate factory. {Adam had class at that time, so he's anxiously awaiting his tour tomorrow.} We saw an exhibit about how chocolate is made and then got to tour the factory! We weren't allowed to take any pictures, but let me assure you, it was pretty amazing. After the tour, our guide led us to a huge platter of chocolates to sample. I might have even wrapped a few in a napkin to take home with me. Mmmm, chocolate!
